Ugh.

Here's Exhibit A in why ZAZ styled humor should only be crafted by the ZAZ team.

(Although, the screwdriver gag at least pays off in a moderately clever way.)

Apparently Nielsen made a ton of these Red Rock Cider ads back in the early to mid 90s. They aired in the UK only.

  1. Add that this kind of thing should only be by the ZAZ team when they're together or supervising something. Just look at HIGH SCHOOL HIGH or AN AMERICAN CAROL.

Also, the idea of using Leslie Nielsen in anything stopped working after the first NAKED GUN movie. The joke is that he was a straight actor playing the role straight and after doing it three or four times he just became another comedy actor. The 'spoof' genre doesn't work when you know in advance something's supposed to be funny with everybody mugging and the situations rather than the script being where the humor comes from.

  2. An American Carol is terrible. Even if you can agree with it's reductive politics it's still a horrible unfunny movie. High School High is just kind of lazy. But yeah, I should have included that thing about the ZAZ team as an addendum. In fact, I was thinking the same thing after I wrote it.

Unlike Adam West, Nielsen doesn't have comic abilities and I'll take it a step further and say that Nielsen wasn't as funny as he was after Police Squad.Even the Naked Gun has too many moments of facial humor.
